~ Dollars for Scholars Phonathon ~
CSF will be calling your number on March 13th
Local high school students will be manning the telephones during the 30th annual Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield Dollars for Scholars Phonathon on Saturday, March 13th. Student volunteers will be calling Wakefield residents between 12 noon and 5 p.m. from the offices of Randstad Corporation at Harvard Mills in Wakefield.
The annual Phonathon helps raise funds for scholarships awarded to Wakefield college students. Each donation, regardless of the dollar amount, goes a long way in making a difference in the life of at least one local student in need of scholarship assistance. Last year’s volunteers helped raise $42,112!
Everyone who receives a call on March 13th is encouraged to make a tax-deductible donation to CSF, whether it is to the general fund, or to a specific permanent or accumulating fund. After the pledge is made, the donor will receive a confirmation by mail. Donations can be applied to an existing permanent or accumulating scholarship by noting the name of the fund on the check. Any local residents who are not at home when the call is made can send their donation to CSF of Wakefield Phonathon, PO Box 321, Wakefield, MA 01880.
Mentoring Matters, an Evening with Dr. Mentor, Susan Weinberger
Join us on Wednesday, March 24, 2010
7:00 - 9:00PM Lord Wakefield Hotel
Lakeside Room

Successful kids just don’t happen. They need the right guidance from the adults in their lives. Anyone involved in a child’s life, whether a parent, teacher, coach, or tutor, has the chance to be something more: a mentor. Sometimes one caring adult can empower a child to thrive and overcome such challenges as coping with domestic violence and enduring bullies. In her presentation, Dr. Mentor will discuss the many different ways adults can make a difference in a child’s life.
This program is jointly sponsored by WAM (Wakefield Adult Mentors), WAAV (Wakefield Alliance Against Violence), and WPP (Wakefield Parent Partnership).
Dr. Susan G. Weinberger, a leading authority on mentoring, is the founder and President of the MENTOR CONSULTING GROUP based in Norwalk, CT. The program she designed has been replicated throughout the United States and internationally, including Bermuda and Canada. WAM is also based on her material.
Dr. Weinberger served for six years (2000-2006) as Chair, Public Policy Council, MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership. She is a consultant to U.S. Departments of Labor; Education; Health & Human Services; Housing and Urban Development; Justice, Office of juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Programs; Center for Substance Abuse Prevention; Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Canada. In 1993 Dr. Weinberger received President Clinton’s coveted Volunteer Action Award in the East Room of the White House for her work in mentoring.
Among her greatest joys is becoming a mentor to a seven-year-old girl who is now a 23-year-old woman.
